Mt Eden and a familiar taste

The next day we awoke to children playing again and even more sunlight and we immediately headed up to Mt Eden. Auckland has 16 volcanoes in its city! The volcanoes are pretty short and have been dormant for a long time, so don’t think about lots of ash and lava or anything.

Afterwards, Lois was intent upon taking us to the first Starbucks that ever was in Auckland. Believe it or not – we were fine with that. I had a nice big coffee and split it with Lois, John got his iced mocha – its starting to feel a little too much like home around here. They gave us a brief tour of the major streets after the cafĂ© break in downtown Auckland, and we returned home where we had our first meat pies (evidently, very Kiwi), then Marian took a big nap because you know – that was really tiring so far.

The rest of the day was pretty quiet. Steen, Lois and Steve’s oldest son, came up from Raglan to visit. We went on a quick run in the field behind the house and finished the evening with a family dinner.
