Outdoor Enthusiest Day

To our disappointment we woke up at 6:30 to the sound of heavy rain falling…not what we wanted for our day in the Milford Sound. We quickly cleaned up camp and met our kayak guide at 7:15 for our day in the water. We then went to the sound and got changed into our sexy kayaking poly propylene.

The sound itself was gorgeous and unreal especially because the weather turned around. The cliff sides look small until you see a kayaker for a reference to their size. Even from a short distance the 161-meter Bowen falls looks small. Bowen Falls is one of many waterfalls in the sound but is 1 of 2 permanent waterfalls.

We even got to see a little sea life on our little trip.

After a short break where our guide gave us some warm mystery juice (some type of fruity drink…get your mind out of the gutter) we headed back to the shore and rode a few waves.

Once we completed the kayaking we went back to the lodge to store all of our excess luggage and headed out to the spectacular Routeburn Track.

We hiked over 7 miles through awesome views of the valley and mountains and we passed Earland Falls. Most everything is unreal and hard to describe how impressive it is. So here are the pictures to help.

By the end of the day we made it to our site at Lake Mackenzie, which again was just unreal.

While setting up our tent we were propositioned by a camera crew. It turns out they are filming a nature documentary and they interviewed us for the show! So those of our Japanese fans keep an eye out for “Great Summits” in August. Evidently if our footage is chosen, we will be viewed by over 20 million Japanese, and hopefully asked to do ads for Japan shortly afterwards and never work again!

  1. I really liked the striped leggings for kayaking. Did you ask to keep them?
