Onwards to the Milford Sound

We woke up early for a big day of driving. We had 4 or 5 hours to go from Queenstown to the Milford Sound. We drove straight through to the Te Anau DOC to stop off and get our camping tickets for the Routeburn Track (one of the ‘Great Walks’). We then continued to the Milford Sound Highway.

John has been wearing scandalous socks courtesy of the Rehberger family:

Our first stop was just on the hillside for a scenic picture with 'sheeps'!

We then continued down the road to Mirror Lake. Again to John’s disappointment the lakes were not mirror like due to the wind.

We then continued onwards to Lake Marian. This was a steep hike up a hill past a pretty little river and then led to beautiful (of course) Lake Marian. The lake was well worth the hike AND John finally got his lake reflections.

We then went back to the car and continued to Homer’s Tunnel. To Maya’s delight she saw her first Kea and grabbed a few pictures:

We then completed the day by getting to the Milford Lodge, setting up our tent and having dinner. Tomorrow is a busy day with Kayaking and hiking.
